BOSTON – SEIU Local 509 President Peter MacKinnon today issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s long-expected decision in the Janus case that was backed by anti-worker extremists:
“Today, the Supreme Court came down on the wrong side of history in a case that the rich and powerful are hoping will divide us. But no court case is going to stop us from fighting for the strong unions our communities need.
“We know that by coming together in our union, we have the power in numbers to raise wages, secure basic needs like healthcare coverage, improve our jobs, protect our rights and create a better life for ourselves, our families and our communities. We did that in our fight against the GIC earlier this year. By standing together, we defeated an attack on our health care. When we are united through our union, we win!
“Today, Local 509 members are sticking with our union and redoubling our commitment to organizing. Uniting with community, religious and political organizations, we can help more workers join together in unions to create more living wage jobs for the most inclusive middle class in our nation’s history. We know we have many more fights coming and we know we are united.”
