SEIU 509 Statement in Response to JANUS Bill

“Today, the Legislature took a historic step to guarantee every member has the right to their union and every union in our Commonwealth has unfettered access to their members. Today’s nearly unanimous override of Governor Baker’s veto demonstrates that Massachusetts is proud to stand with labor.

When unions thrive, we raise the bar for every employer to provide a living wage. At a time when national interests are attempting to dismantle and divide us, today’s decision shows that Massachusetts believes firmly in economic equality for all.

We are grateful to Senate President Spilka, Speaker DeLeo, and each member of the legislature who voted to put working families first.”
