Description

 LEAD ORGANIZER

Service Employees International Union Local 509 is a progressive union with over 10,000 members.  We represent human service workers in both the state sector and in the state funded private sector.

Job Duties: 

Leads organizing campaigns of private and public sector employees, including developing and leading staff Organizers, interns and member Organizers; coordinates all aspects of organizing campaigns including making initial contact with workers, developing worker leads, developing organizing committees, developing and coordinating campaign, and filing necessary legal petitions for representation; and performs related work as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Works under the supervision of the Organizing Director

Skills Needed:

• At least two years of proven Lead Level Organizing experience in labor, community, student or political organizations or campaigns is required
• Commitment to the labor movement
• Ability to move workers through house-calls and one on one conversations to organize a Union
• Ability to train staff and members in successful organizing campaigns
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (listening, speaking, and writing)
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work under pressure
• Computer literate, with the ability to use Internet to research employers
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
• An insured, registered vehicle and a valid drivers’ license are required
• Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish/English, Portuguese/English, Haitian/Creole/English) candidates, persons of color encouraged to apply.

Compensation:  Salary range $54,545 - $62,320, generous benefit package.
