Frank Shea's Letter of Appreciation
Frank lost his fight on June 12

As many of you are aware, I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer on February 15th. This was the same date that my wife and I received a phone call notifying us of the birth of our first grandchild, Connor Richard Shea.
Shortly after the word of my condition began to spread, I began to receive many cards, personal notes, and religious enrollments from many of the members, DOE staff and other people I have met through my 30 years of employment with the Commonwealth and involvement with the Local, expressing their support, thoughts, and prayers for my recovery. I have been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and also the personal thoughts that you have expressed. The most moving and humbling of these was dated April 2nd, and signed by more than 75 of you.
Most individuals in my position never hear or know most of the thoughts and feelings about them and their lives because they occur in a eulogy or some other memorial remarks. I am truly humbled, heartened, and uplifted by your thoughts, prayers, and comments. Most of you who know me know that I am a fighter and that to the Irish the fight is more important than the victory. I intend to fight this disease and its side effects with every ounce of strength I possess. With your continued support and prayers, I plan to beat this hideous disease and become an integral part of Connor’s life. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your continued support.
