"STEWARD'S TIP OF THE WEEK"STEWARDS: DO YOU HAVE A TIP TO SHARE?

"Who am I today?..." To do your job, you have to talk with managers. To be a steward you have to talk with managers. Sometimes this can get confusing.
You
don't want the manager to think you are representing the union if you
are only stating your own point of view. And you want the manager to
pay attention if you are in fact addressing union business as a steward.
One
way to avoid confusion is to be very clear with the manager if you are
speaking to them as a steward. State, "I am speaking now as a
steward..." or, if you are just speaking for yourself, say, "I am
speaking now as me, not in my capacity as a steward..." |
