"The Ones That Got Away"

The easiest way to grow and strengthen our union - and to deliver the protections and benefits of a Local 509 contract to more people - may be at the desk right beside you!

Your agency may have recently set up a new program or created a new job title that is not named in your contract’s recognition clause.  But maybe they should be union positions, even if your private sector agency’s management is defining the positions as "non-union."  In the public sector, these new non-union workers may be considered “consultants” or employed by another agency.

Don’t hesitate - Notify your field rep right away!

If you do not, the union will not know about the new positions and, as time passes, getting the workers into the union may become much more difficult. Having non-union staff in your bargaining unit weakens the union during negotiations and labor-management discussions.

Do your part to keep SEIU Local 509 strong: Make sure all of your non-management colleagues are members!
