"Headaches?"
Usually, we represent individuals members who are having a problem with a supervisor, or a group dealing with a broader contract violation. Those issues can be a "headache". But what about the real headaches?
Sometimes a member notices a pattern of headaches, sleepiness, or others illnesses among their coworkers. As a steward, this is a good thing for you to watch out for. Many of our members work in poorly constructed buildings that may have inadequate air circulation or other health and safety problems.
Local 509 has a digital air testing machine, and an active Health & Safety Committee that can give you advice.
