On Saturday, October 18, join your fellow SEIU 509 union members at our Annual Meeting/Nominating Convention in Boston!
The Annual Meeting is an important time for us to look back on our victories and plan to continue building worker power in the coming year! Members will also have the opportunity to submit nominations or run for a seat on one of our union leadership teams.
You must be a member in good standing to attend the Annual Meeting. If you have any questions, please email governance@seiu509.org
accessibility & logistics
Hybrid meeting: The annual meeting will be both in-person and virtual.
Interpretation: ASL & Spanish interpretation available for both in-person and virtual attendees.
Childcare: Childcare will be available at the meeting.
Parking: Please park at Motor Mart Garage, 201 Stuart Street, Boston, MA 02116. Parking will be covered by the union. A voucher will be available at the registration desk for attendees.
The annual meeting is a fragrance-free space for the safety and comfort of all attendees. Please do not wear or use any perfume, cologne, scented lotion, hair spray, aftershave, scented deodorant, anything aerosol (scented or unscented) or air fresheners. Unscented non-aerosol products are acceptable.
NOMINATION GUIDELINES
- In order to run for office, a candidate must be a “member in good standing” for six months prior to the Annual Meeting.
- Nominations for all offices shall be submitted from the floor of the Annual Meeting. All nominations must be seconded.
- Nominations and seconds can be made by both in person and virtual member attendees. A member does not need to be present in order to be nominated.
- Nominations must be handed in writing to the Recording Secretary.
- Nominations and seconds for chapter offices shall come from the chapter and must be by members in good standing of that chapter.
- Nominations and seconds for local wide offices can come from any present member in good standing.
- All members nominated will be notified in writing that they were nominated for local wide or chapter office. If a member is nominated for more than one position, that member will be asked to choose the seat they prefer. The nomination for the higher ranking office will stand if the member does not respond.
rules for campaigning at the annual meeting
- Candidate tables outside of the ballroom will be available on a first come first served basis
- Candidate literature is not allowed in the ballroom
- Candidate t-shirts and buttons are allowed in the ballroom
- Candidate banners/backgrounds/screen savers are not allowed for Zoom participants

candidate statements & important dates
Candidates for contested offices may submit a statement with the following provisions:
DEADLINE: Candidate statements are due by noon EST on Monday, October 27. Statements are to be submitted to governance@seiu509.org
509 President: 400 word limit and photo
509 Treasurer, 509 Recording Secretary, and Chapter Presidents: 300 word limit and photo
Any other contested offices: 200 word limit and no photo
Candidates’ statements must be transmitted to governance@seiu509.org
The candidate must submit the copy in corrected, proofread form and the Union will not make any changes, including the correction misspelling, grammar or typing errors.
If the statement exceeds the length specified above, the part which exceeds the limit will be cut off even if the statement terminates mid sentence.
Do not include a header or title.
If the statement is not submitted by the deadline, it will not be distributed or added to the website.
If you wish for your statement to be in any other language, you must email that translation at the same time. We do not provide translation of statements.
Candidate statements will be posted on the SEIU Local 509 website and will be distributed with the ballots.
The following dates pertain to the ballots:
Ballots Mail on Monday, November 10.
Ballots must be returned to the election authority on or before Wednesday, December 3.
Ballots Counted on Thursday, December 4 at 509 Headquarters.
