Today, with deep respect, we remember and celebrate our dear Maritza Manrique, who passed on March 24, 2025. As the anniversary of her passing approaches, her presence feels more alive than ever in every step we take together as a community.
Maritza was a fighter. She was a visionary. She was brave. She pioneered our fight for a union, for better working conditions and benefits, always firm in her fight for justice for educators. Her leadership left an indelible imprint in our movement, especially her time as an active member of our Family Childcare Chapter Board and as Chapter President in 2022.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance, teaching us to never give up and to always move with dignity and dedication. We remember all of our educators who are not here with us today, but who live on in every accomplishment within our movement. We especially honor Maritza, whose words still resonate in my heart: “Always stay strong.”
We will keep fighting for her and for all childcare providers. Always with us, always in our hearts, our beloved Maritza, presente!
