We are deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Bailey, a long-time SEIU 509 adjunct faculty member in the Arts Administration program at BU’s Metropolitan College. She served on all of the BU adjunct faculty bargaining committees, and was a true labor activist: always speaking at rallies, tabling, and attending new member orientations. A seasoned steward, Janet received a SEIU 509 Higher Ed steward’s award in 2024. Our union siblings remember her as “a gracious, forceful presence,” with “a fire in her I truly admired,” and as a smart, witty, and powerful union steward.
Our hearts go out to Janet’s family, her loved ones, colleagues, and students. We will miss her deeply.
