Job Description

Local 509 is hiring a full-time Political Education Organizer, based in our Marlboro, MA office, starting March, 2026. Along with other union staff and leaders, the Political Education Organizer will assist in the coordination and implementation of union political programs, and educate members on the importance of political action, and raise COPE contributions.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

  • Assist the Deputy Political Director in Coordinating and implementing SEIU 509
    political program, including the recruitment of member political organizers
  • Help facilitate political trainings and member-to-member actions for 509 members
  • Pitch COPE to members in their workplaces and educate them about priority legislation
  • Support Local 509 member candidates running for elected office, as needed
  • Recruit for the monthly Local 509 COPE (Committee on Political Education) meetings
  • Help implement a statewide political activist network of Local 509 members
  • Other duties as assigned

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in Massachusetts politics, campaign work, and/or the labor
    movement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and execute strategic field campaigns in support of an
    issue or candidate.
  • Demonstrated writing ability and the ability to communicate the union’s goals, particularly with respect to growing and increasing member participation in political campaigns and
    lobbying efforts.
  • Ability to speak and present to various size audiences.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with voter and volunteer databases and
    e-mail programs.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends, including travel throughout the state and some
    out-of-state travel.
  • An insured, registered vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish, preferred.
  • Commitment to progressive social change.

 

SUPERVISION

The Political Education Organizer works under the supervision of the Legislative & Political Director.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range of $91,078.91 – $103,177.87, depending on experience. Generous leave and
benefits package.
