March 14: Bargaining Update & Continuing Calls to Gov. Healey

We were proud to have over 100 members at evening bargaining on March 14 showing up strong for the contract we deserve! We continued to prioritize retroactivity to the expiration of our contract (January 1) and presented proposals about salary inequities in the state, which is one of our main priorities.

We still need all hands on deck to take action for a fair wage proposal. Have you made your call to Governor Healey yet?

On March 1, the state made a wage proposal that does not address the recruitment and retention crisis our agencies and communities are facing. While we schedule the next bargaining session, call Governor Healey’s office and let her know our members and clients deserve a fair wage proposal—and ask your coworkers to do the same.

Sample Script:
“Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a SEIU 509 member from [AGENCY NAME]. I’m calling today to ask Governor Healey to direct HRD to present a wage proposal that acknowledges the recruitment and retention crisis, the rising cost of living and the quality services that our clients deserve.

The proposal that our union received last week does not do this. Our clients are experiencing longer waits for services and support, and our case loads are continuing to grow. For me [and my family], a fair wage proposal would mean… [YOUR PERSONAL STORY OF HOW FAIR WAGES WOULD IMPACT YOU].

I hope we can count on the Governor to prioritize the needs of workers, clients and communities. Thank you for your time.”
