“As the union representing human service providers at Tewksbury Hospital, we remain horrified by the ongoing violent incidents that endanger the wellbeing of patients and staff. The most recent incidents at Tewksbury are not isolated, but part of an escalating pattern that demands immediate attention.
We have repeatedly called on the state to seriously engage with the issues our union, as well as other unions representing workers at the hospital, have identified as being the root cause of this crisis: a lack of investment in a care delivery system that adequately supports many of the patients’ complex needs.
These incidents are preventable. We need the state to act with the urgency this crisis requires, and listen to the voices of frontline workers so we can prioritize safety, dignity, and quality care for all.”
