Governor Healey shared a budget proposal that significantly cuts funds for the Group Insurance Commission (GIC), which provides healthcare for state workers, including Local 509 public sector members. This GIC cut will shift significant costs onto you and your families.
These cost shifts in deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses will result in state workers and their families paying significantly more for health care each year. These are unjust cost shifts that will save the state a small amount when compared to the significant harm they will cause for working families.
We’re glad so many of you joined the GIC listening sessions earlier this month. Now, it’s time to take action to protect our healthcare.
We urge you to send an email to Governor Healey and your state legislators, demanding that they protect the healthcare that you and your families rely on: act.seiu.org/a/gic-funding-feb-2026
We’ll keep you informed on more developments and ways to take action. We appreciate everyone who has already reached out to us and shared their stories, and we encourage you to share the impact of this cost shift when sending a message to the Governor and your legislators.
In solidarity,
Dave Foley
SEIU Local 509 President
