On Wednesday, July 15, MAB Community Services workers who are negotiating their first union contract will rally alongside elected officials and community allies for livable wages, retirement benefits, and protections for immigrant workers.. Since winning their union election on August 26, 2025 with SEIU 509, workers have been fighting for dignity and respect in their workplace.
MAB workers support individuals in group homes with a range of disabilities to live full and independent lives. They administer medication, assist with personal care needs, plan outings, and teach life skills to the individuals served by the agency. Workers say their decision to unionize was driven by the human service sector facing a workforce crisis in Massachusetts. Low wages, high vacancy rates, budget cuts, and more recently, changes to federal immigration policies threaten to exacerbate this crisis.
A special thank you to Boston City Councilor Henry Santana and Boston DSA for joining us!
