State workers: our raises are on the way!

A group of people stand together and smile for a photo with Governor Maura Healey in a formal room with green walls, large windows, and an American flag in the background. Several people wear purple shirts with SEIU logos.
Union Siblings,

Today, we were prepared to deliver over 4,000 signatures on a petition to Governor Healey urging her to exercise executive decision-making power to fund our raises. While we were gathered outside, we received a phone call from the Governor’s office that our raises and retro pay will be fully funded in our next two paychecks. That’s the power of our collective voices to make our demands happen!

Instead of only delivering a petition, we were able to thank Governor Healey for her intervention to make sure we receive our raises and retro pay before the holidays—and talk to her face to face about the issues our members cope with daily on the job. Thank you to the 11 members from the MassAbility, DOR/Child Support, DCF, MassHealth, DDS, DPH, MRC, and IST Chapters who came out to Beacon Hill on short notice to do this important advocacy work!

Here is what to expect in the coming weeks:
-Members will receive the 3% raise to your pay rate in the 11/22/2024 paycheck
-Members will receive the retro pay for the 3% raise in the 12/6/2024 paycheck
>Retro pay will be calculated to 7/14/2024 If you were hired after this date, your retro pay will be calculated to your date of hire
> If you retired after 7/14/2024, you will still be eligible for retro pay. The Commonwealth will send a check to the address they have on file for you. Contact HRD with any questions or concerns about this process.
> If you were not on payroll at any time between 7/14/2024 and 11/22/2024, that time will not be counted for the purposes of calculating retro pay.
> If you received a step increase on your anniversary date between 7/14/2024 and 11/22/2024, your retro pay calculation will be:
>> The amount of the 3% increase on your rate of pay from 7/14/2024 to the date of your anniversary, plus
>> The amount of the 3% increase on your rate of pay from the date of your anniversary to 11/22/2024

We will send more information when we have implementation dates for:
-Bilingual differential increases
-Stand-by pay increases
-Weekend differential pay increases
-Increases to employee expenses (reimbursements)

If you have concerns after you receive your raise on 11/22/24 and retro pay on 12/6/24, or you do not see a change in your paycheck on either of those dates, please contact us at connect@seiu509.org for help. We will connect you to an organizer who can assist you.

In Solidarity,

David Foley SEIU 509 President
