We’re excited to share that the House of Representatives chose to protect essential services in the FY26 budget by safeguarding mental health services that DMH case workers provide – a lifeline to thousands of people across Massachusetts. We also won “stop and study” language for Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital, which prevents any service reductions until December 2026. While we did not win similar language for Pocasset Hospital, we did win funding for a small expansion in services there. We will advocate for the Senate budget to include protective language that mirrors the House budget language to protect Pappas.
The overwhelming support for passing these priority amendments is a testament to your tireless advocacy efforts. By building solidarity with your co-workers, organizing informational pickets across the state, and calling and emailing your representatives, you made this progress possible.
We’re grateful to the House and legislative leaders who stood with DMH workers and rejected layoffs and service cuts, stood with Pappas workers and families, and advocated for Pocasset.
This decision to invest in the health, safety, and stability of our most vulnerable communities brings us one step closer to ensuring that thousands of people across Massachusetts continue to have access to the critical support and care they need.
We look forward to continuing to work with our members, allies, and elected leaders to ensure the final budget protects these vital services. Stay tuned for updates as things move forward!
