CHL member updates

Program Closures

On April 21, Community HealthLink completely shut down their detox unit on Jaques Ave, removing a crucial support service for community members struggling with substance use and resulting in staff layoffs.

Our members have voiced concerns over the state of the programs for years, advocating through their union for changes that would address working conditions, safety and adequate services for their clients. Although these programs have closed, we will continue to advocate for their reopening. We’re demanding a seat at the table and a reopening process that is shaped by worker and community voices.

When the program shut downs began, we spoke out in the press:

Community action: letter delivery

On May 2nd, a delegation of CHL workers, community members, and elected officials gathered at UMass to deliver a letter to Eric Dickson calling for the reopening of services and a meeting with workers to ensure our voices are centered in the process.

Eric Dickson refused to meet with us or accept our letter, so we delivered it to an assistant at a CHL facility. Meanwhile, we continued to speak out about our demands and build community alliances.
