We Did It! Raises & Retro Coming 12/22

A large group of people gathers in front of the Massachusetts State House, holding SEIU banners and wearing purple shirts.

Union Siblings,

We did it! The thousands of messages we sent to the Governor’s office paid off—literally. Although the administration said it was impossible to issue our raises & retro pay so quickly because of the legislature’s long delay, we made sure they did whatever it took to make it happen. Thank you to our member leaders who pushed our petition within our offices and chapters—you made this victory possible! And thank you to everyone who took action.

All eligible public sector members will be receiving the money from our contract in the 12/22/2023 payroll. Here’s what you need to know:

What should I expect in my check?

  • According to our agreement, members should receive:
    • A 4% raise as of January 1, 2023 (if you were on payroll on or after that date)
      • Retro pay at this new rate to January 1 or your start date if between January 1 and July 1
    • Another 4% raise as of July 2, 2023 (if you were on payroll on or after that date)
      • Retro pay to July 2 or your start date if after July 2 but before December 31, 2023
  • Members will receive increases and retro pay for upgrades (including longevity pay) in January—more information to come

What if I have a question or there is a problem?

Please wait until 12/22 to check your pay stub and see the money you have received.

  • If you do not receive any funds after 12/22, please contact us at connect@seiu509.org with your name and agency.
  • If you think you did not receive the right amount of money, please contact us at connect@seiu509.org with your name, agency, and dates of employment during 2023.

Where can I view updated wage charts?

Thank you for your patience with us as we work to respond to all of your concerns. For a faster response, please contact a steward or your chapter advisor directly.

We know our public sector members waited far too long for this money. Every call, email, petition signature, and trip into Boston to rally and pressure legislators mattered in this fight. As we continue pushing at the bargaining table for a strong new contract in the New Year, we will need everyone’s energy to make sure the Commonwealth respects us and honors our hard work and dedication. Our Local 509 family wishes you and yours a warm and happy holiday season.

Make sure you don’t miss any future updates about our next contract! Sign up for texts: Text CONTRACT to 787753 to get action alerts and updates from the bargaining committee about our ongoing negotiations.

In Solidarity,

David Foley
President, SEIU 509
